Casino can draw lots of patrons - Port Huron Times Herald

Let's see what you've got for me on this day after Christmas.

Talk to me:

? No Name: "This is to Virginia who doesn't think Port Huron should have a casino. Hopefully, Port Huron will get a casino and you don't have to come there. If

you're worried about living in a casino state, you probably should pack your bags because there are quite a few casinos in Michigan already. There are three in Detroit. There are several in the Upper Peninsula. There are others up north. I don't think you're going to find many states without casinos at this point. I certainly hope you're not going to bother coming to the one in Port Huron if and when it opens. I'm sure a lot of other people will patronize it, though."Point taken, but Virginia has every right to visit a Port Huron casino -- if the city gets one.? No Name: "It's funny. If we use too much gasoline, the price goes up. If we don't use enough gasoline, the price goes up. We give billions of dollars every quarter to the oil companies. Then, they want to go to 15% ethanol, which now makes the food prices rise. It's a vicious cycle."? Jim Clary: "There still are some Christmas ornaments remaining at Cap'n Jim's Gallery. The 13th Annual Salvation Army Christmas Fund Drive will continue until the end of the year or until the 2010 ornaments are gone. While they last, anyone making a donation to the Salvation Army of $1 or more will receive an ornament with an image of the United States Coast Guard Cutter Hollyhock -- cash or checks payable to the Salvation Army only. For further information, call (810) 987-0767."? Barbara from Fort Gratiot: "Who was that lovely lady in the blue car at the north end McDonald's, Dec. 23, at 11 a.m. who paid for my lunch? You brought tears to my eyes. I'm 70 years old and never had anybody do such a kind thing -- especially a stranger. Your act of kindness gave me so much more than a $5 salad. It gave me hope at a time when society is having so many difficulties, yes, including me. It reminded me of the true meaning of Christmas, of loving and caring for others. It made me stop and think. Things aren't always as bad as they might seem. Yes, I will, with my eyes a little wider and hopefully a little wiser, pass on some acts of kindness to others. Who knows when some senior citizen is going to pay for your lunch. May this lovely lady have the happiest Christmas and blessed new year of all. Thank you so much."
