STATELINE, Nev. (AP) - Authorities have launched an investigation into the Jan. 1 death of a 26-year-old man at a Stateline casino.

The Tahoe Daily Tribune reports that 2002 Incline High School graduate David Marriner was found at the bottom of a stairwell at the Horizon Casino Resort.

He

was taken to a Reno hospital, where he died.

Douglas County sheriff's Capt. John Milby says it's unclear how long Marriner was in the stairwell prior to guests finding him, but it may have been as long as three hours.

Milby says while Marriner's injuries appear consistent with falling down stairs and no evidence of foul play has surfaced, investigators are awaiting toxicology results to determine the cause of death.

In Nevada, unattended deaths are investigated as homicides.
