Maryland's two casinos increased their combined revenue to more than $12 million in February, a 20 percent boost over the previous month.
Hollywood Casino in Perryville, run by Penn National Gaming, generated $9 million in revenue last month
February's total puts both casinos at more than $50 million in revenue for the fiscal year, which ends June 30. The Perryville casino opened in late September; Ocean Downs opened in January.
To date, the casinos have generated more than $24.5 million for the state's Education Trust Fund, $3.5 million to boost horse racing purses and more than $1.2 million for a fund reserved for racetrack facility improvements. That improvement fund is being used temporarily to subsidize Maryland's track owners' operations, a measure taken to ensure the state's thoroughbred racing season would not be cut short this year.
The casino owners received more than $16.6 million from the overall revenue. Penn National kept $14.6 million in five months of operation and Ocean Downs owner William Rickman earned $2 million in two months of operation.
