— The Harrah's casino and hotel in Southern Illinois that's been closed for nearly a week because of high levels on the Ohio River is reopening.

The company says the 36,000-square-foot casino in Metropolis was scheduled to reopen at 9 a.m. Tuesday, six days after it was closed because of safety concerns involving the

swollen Ohio River nearby.

In a statement Monday, Harrah's thanked its employees and guests for their patience.

The company says the employees continued to get their full pay and benefits during the closure.

The casino is part of the Las Vegas-based Caesars Entertainment Corp., the world's biggest casino operator.

A Harrah's spokesman says another casino — the Horseshoe Southern Indiana — also was closed recently because of flooding.
