A Lake Forest man has been identified as being involved in a murder-suicide at a Las Vegas casino hotel, officials said today.

Edward Brandt, 31, of Lake Forest, shot and killed 30-year-old Jessica Corinne Kenny, of Las Vegas, at the concierge desk shortly before midnight Friday, according to the Clark County Coroner’s office. Kenny died of multiple gunshot wounds, while Brandt died from a single gunshot wound to the head, the coroner’s office reported.

Kenny was working at the hotel for the travel web site vegas.com, and had dated Brandt in the past but not recently, police said in published reports.

A woman who declined to give her name but who was identified as Brandt’s mother said in a brief phone interview that she was taken aback by the news.

“We’re totally devastated and shocked,” the woman said. “He was on vacation and was supposed to come home. He was perfectly happy when he left. I wish I knew what he was thinking. We feel absolutely horrible for her family.”
