Hollywood Casino Columbus saw revenue decline last month. The Las Vegas-style casino opened in October.

Revenue fell 10 percent, or $2 million, at Hollywood Casino Columbus in December compared with the month before, while it remained steady at Scioto Downs Casino & Racetrack.

Hollywood Columbus took in $18 million in December, down from $20 million the previous month, the first full month of operation for the Las Vegas-style casino, according to the Ohio Casino Control Commission.

Revenue at Scioto Downs – which only has video slot machines - was up about $30,000 to $9.9 million for the month, according to the Ohio Lottery Commission.

The payout rate for the 3,015 slots at Hollywood Columbus was 91.4 percent in December, while it was 91.8 percent for the 2,117 machines at Scioto Downs, according to the commission.

Statewide, the December revenue for the casinos in Columbus, Cleveland and Toledo were $56.7 million, up from $54.1 million the previous month.

Revenue at Horseshoe Casino Cleveland was $24.5 million, up from $20.5 million the previous month.

Revenue at Hollywood Casino Toledo was $14.2 million, up from $13.6 million.

Columbus is the only city in Ohio with competing casinos.

A casino’s revenue is basically the money gamblers lose at the casinos, while the payout rate on the slots is the percentage of money bet that is returned to players.

About one-third of this revenue goes to the state.
