Paul Bhattacharjee, actor in 'Casino Royale,' found dead by cliff days after disappearing in London

A British actor who appeared in the James Bond film “Casino Royale” was found dead by cliffs near a seaside resort sixty miles south of London, where he disappeared after leaving a theater two days earlier.

East Sussex police announced Friday that the body of a man discovered July 12 at the Splash Point cliffs was identified as 53-year-old Paul Bhattacharjee, who had been last seen leaving rehearsals at the Royal Court Theatre two days earlier, Britain’s Easbourne Herald reported.

The London-based actor’s death, who sent a final text message to his girlfriend at 9 p.m. on he day he disappeared, was not being treated as suspicious, police said.

Bhattacharjee had been slated to appear in a play, “Talk Show” at the Royal Court Theatre, which began performances Thursday, according to BBC News. The production went on as scheduled with another actor taking over the role.

“We are deeply shocked and completely devastated at the loss of our dear friend and brilliant colleague,” Vicky Featherstone, the theater’s artist director, said in a statement to he news agency.

"Paul has been such an important part of the world of theatre in so many ways and we shall miss him terribly."

Bhattacharjee’s disappearance had sparked public pleas on Twitter for help locating him from fellow actors Kim Cattrall and Stephen Fry.

The late actor, who also appeared in 2011’s “The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” is most famous on the other side of the Pond for starring on the popular TV series, “The Eastenders,” from 2008 and 2010.
