WWLP - An attempt to repeal Mass casino laws

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - We're learning more about the players involved in the effort to kill the law that allows casinos to be built here in Massachusetts.

They include some church leaders including the bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Western Massachusetts. The Episcopal Bishop has reportedly backed a civil suit that challenges Attorney General Martha Coakley's decision to kill an effort by casino opponents to repeal the Massachusetts casino law.

As of now, Springfield and Palmer remain in the running for a Western Massachusetts Casino. Less than one week ago, West Springfield voters rejected the Hard Rock casino proposal to place a hotel and casino on the grounds of the Big E. 

The expanded gambling law also calls for construction of two other casinos in different parts of Massachusetts.
