A man shot to death outside the Emerald Queen Casino in Tacoma on Saturday has been identified as Brandon Williams.

Williams, 26, of Puyallup, was trying to back his car out of the parking lot about 12:45 a.m. when another vehicle parked behind him.

Williams was shot when he got out of his car to ask the other driver to move, Puyallup Tribe of Indians spokesman John Weymer said.

The tribe operates the casino and is investigating the homicide along with the FBI, which handles major crime on reservations.

Oregon State Police arrested the alleged shooter, 27-year-old Jeremy Schlenker, later Saturday as he drove south on Interstate 5 near Salem. A 25-year-old female passenger was taken into custody and police found a weapon in the car.

Schlenker made a first appearance in U.S. District Court in Portland on Monday and was ordered held without bail until the U.S. Marshal’s Office can move him to Tacoma to face criminal charges.

An FBI spokewoman said she couldn’t comment on a possible motive because of the ongoing investigation.

Surveillance footage from the casino shows the shooter cruising the parking lot before confronting a couple. He fired a gun into the air five times but did not hurt the couple.

He then allegedly parked behind Williams and shot him.
