D'Iberville casino construction reaches milestone

D’IBERVILLE, Miss. (AP) - A ceremony has been held to mark the placement of the final construction element atop what will soon be D’Iberville’s first casino.

The Sun Herald (http://bit.ly/1FRNRj4) reports city officials on Friday toured the 18-story Scarlet Pearl Casino after $80,000 in prizes were awarded to the crews and subcontractors who are building the casino.

City Manager Bobby Eleuterius on Friday thanked the Granieri family for making financing possible for the $350 million casino, which he said will draw tourists, jobs and businesses to D’Iberville.

“This is going to mean an awful lot for our city,” he said.

It is D’Iberville’s first casino and he said, “We waited 20 years for this.”

Will they be done as scheduled by the end of the year?

“Absolutely,” said Bob Kelly, a Roy Anderson Construction senior vice president.

There already are lights inside and the building should be enclosed and air-conditioned in July, Roy Anderson said.

‘At the top’

“We’re at the top; now it’s just a matter of pushing it out and finishing,” said Steve Marshall with The Fine Point Group, which handles marketing for the project. The plan is to debut Scarlet Pearl before New Year’s Eve.

The four-star hotel will feature suites on the top floor and at the corners of the other floors. One of those on the tour was 700 square feet — the size of a one-bedroom apartment.

Almost $30,000 per room is being spent just on windows — “Wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling glazing,” said Nory Hazaveh of SOSH, a New York architectural and interior design firm. He carried a book of his renderings during Friday’s tour to show what each completed space will look like.

Interior columns are part of most every room. “The building basically floats,” he said. The ceiling of the casino resembles waves.

Guests will choose gourmet dining, the buffet, a noodle bar or a cafe and play at the casino with its 1,350 slot machines and more than 40 table games, A small multi-purpose area called The Strand can host entertainment or events.
