Casino limits free parking for non-customers

The Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati announced Wednesday it will begin charging people for parking during certain hours if they aren't casino customers.

It's commonly known that the large parking garage with access from Reading Road and Gilbert Avenue is a convenient, free parking option for people working and playing in the city core.

Initially the casino only planned to allow free parking at night, and officials said they would charge non-customers $1 per hour during the day, but the public quickly learned they could park for free all the time.

"Over time, parking has become more difficult for our gaming guests due to Downtown workers who are parking for free in our garage," said Kevin Kline, general manager of Horseshoe Cincinnati. "To ensure sufficient parking for guests coming to the casino, Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati will begin charging a daily parking rate."

The new rate will only be in effect from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. during the week. To park during these hours, non-customers will be charged $10.

The new charges will begin Friday.

Casino customers with a "Total Rewards card" will be permitted to park for free any time. Kline also said spaces will continue to be reserved for county employees that have a parking pass.
