Officials said reports came in just before 6 a.m. that a Dodge truck and a lumber-carrying train had been involved in the crash near Industrial and Athens avenues.

The crossing guards at the tracks appeared to be functioning properly, officials said. Witnesses said the train used its horn when the truck stopped on the tracks with the crossing rails down.

Saturday morning, the train remained on the tracks, blocking vehicle access to Athens Avenue. It was expected to reopen around 10 a.m., officials said.

The California Highway Patrol and police with Union Pacific are investigating the cause of the crash.
