Neighbors in Seneca County are trying to put the brakes on the development of a Las Vegas-style resort in the town of Tyre.

Opponents have collected petition signatures and conducted roadside protests; they've even won a lawsuit in state supreme court. Now, a series of video's have been uploaded to YouTube explaining why the $425 million casino project would hurt the rural area.

"Tyre is unique in the way that its very tranquil," said Hannah Stephen in one of the video's. "It's very quiet; it's very peaceful, and its farm country."

Developer Thomas Wilmot has had plans to build the Lago Resort and Casino for several years right off exit 41 of the New York State Thruway. You may remember Lago won the bid by the state gaming board to build a casino in Tyre late last year. Construction had been underway, but was suspended in July.

"We wanted the video to put a face to this opposition," said Desiree Dawley, whose son produced the video. "We wanted people to hear our side of the story."

Desiree and her husband Sam have own land that boarders property owned by the casino. Recently they began to build their dream house and a neighboring casino was not in their plans.

"We're real people, with real lives, with real homes and land that is going to be devastated by this development," said Dawley. "People you see in the video are very emotional about it and I'm proud they were able to get out there and say what needed to be said."

In December 2014, when Lago won the bid for a license Thomas Wilmot, of Wilmorite, the developer working on the proposed Lago casino, had this to say:

"We have said all along that if awarded one of the state's casino licenses that we would begin construction of Lago within a week. We remain committed to that timetable, just as we remain committed to the people of Tyre and Seneca County. We are excited about the opportunity to build a destination resort in the Finger Lakes region that will create thousands of jobs, bring hundreds of thousands of new tourists to our beautiful region, and showcase New York vineyards, breweries, agriculture, and history."
