A historic Springfield church is being moved down the street to make way for the city's new casino.

Workers on Tuesday will start relocating the 129-year-old First Spiritualist Church from its current location to a new spot a couple of blocks away.

The church's current location will be the middle of the MGM Springfield casino's gambling floor. Relocating the church is part of MGM's historical preservation commitment to the city.

Democratic Mayor Domenic Sarno as well as MGM executives will hold a news conference to mark the start of the move.

The High Victorian Gothic brick church was originally known as the French Protestant Church but has been known as the First Spiritualist Church since 1919. It has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1987.
