WATERLOO – A Waterloo man has been arrested for allegedly taking money from the Isle of Capri Casino over the weekend.

According to court records, Jerel Gerard Harris, 32, was working at the casino around 4:45 a.m. Saturday when he took a stack of cash from the main bank area when he was alone. He then went to his vehicle in the parking lot where he allegedly placed the money before returning to work, records state.

Isle staff noticed the theft of the casino’s surveillance cameras. Authorities said more than $10,000 was taken.

Waterloo police arrested Harris, of 415 Thompson Ave., on Saturday morning for one count of first-degree theft. He was taken to the Black Hawk County Jail, and bond was set at $10,000.

First-degree theft is a Class C felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison upon conviction.
