The fifth year is the charm.

Jack Casino enjoyed its strongest year ever, raking in nearly $198 million in 2017. The tally easily makes it the No. 1 gambling destination in Greater Cincinnati.

“We have built momentum moving into 2018 and our goal is to continue to provide an exceptional entertainment experience for our guests,” said Chad Barnhill, Jack Casino's general manager.

The casino originally opened in 2013 as Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati before Rock Gaming owner Dan Gilbert bought out minority-owner Caesar's Entertainment. Owner of the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Detroit billionaire was active in getting casino gambling legalized in 2009.

Still, the Cincinnati casino lagged all its Ohio peers with Jack in Cleveland and Hollywood Casinos in Columbus and Toledo generating more gambling dollars.

Collectively, casinos in Ohio generated $819 million in 2017, while racinos pulled in $957 million.

The culprit for Jack's low ranking in the state? Blame Cincinnati's ultra-competitive gambling scene with seven outlets battling it out for a piece of the region's nearly $850 million market.
