Greektown Casino-Hotel delays rebranding to Jack Detroit to end of summer

Official rebranding of Greektown Casino-Hotel to Jack Detroit Casino-Hotel, which includes a new paint job, new signs and the addition of a curious, red cube to Detroit's skyline, is being delayed until the end of summer.

A multimillion-dollar restoration of renamed restaurants in the high-rise building, Monroe Market and Noodle Art, are on track to open in May, as Crain's previously reported.

"Our decision to focus on an end of summer transition date provides our talented team the ability to integrate and facilitate industry leading technology and ensure a higher quality and rewarding experience for our guests," Matt Cullen, CEO of Jack Entertainment, said in a written statement.

Jack Entertainment LLC is owned by Dan Gilbert's Rock Ventures LLC. Generating more than $1.2 billion in revenue, the company has gaming properties in Cleveland, Cincinnati and Baltimore, as well as horse-racing facilities in Ohio and Kentucky. It employs around 7,000 people across all its locations.

Gilbert's company bought the Greektown property in 2013 and has undertaken millions in renovations and remodeling.

"Regarding the signage (in Greektown), we are actively installing our 1,500-unit state-of-the-art signage package, which includes a beacon that has the ability to change colors and display animations," Jack spokeswoman Samantha Chyette said via email.

The beacon is a cube of screens atop the 30-story property casino that has transmitted little but the color red since being installed last fall. It has occasionally flashed different colors to test the signage, the company said.
