Agua Caliente Casino Cathedral City opened to the public on Tuesday, Nov. 24, according to the casino’s social media accounts.

Just after 8 p.m. the casino’s Twitter account featured a message comprised of a string of emojis, including a champagne bottle, a slot machine and a smiley wearing a party hat and blowing out a noisemaker along with a photo of a popping bottle of bubbly with the text “Doors now open. Party on.”

Previously, casino officials hadn’t announced a firm opening date, with social media accounts indicating that the complex would open sometime in the fall.

The Cathedral City property, at 68960 E. Palm Canyon Drive is near the Mary Pickford Theater of Highway 111 and is approximately 30,000 square feet in size. It’s the third casino the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians has opened in the Coachella Valley and it is less than 10 miles from sister properties Agua Caliente Casino Palm Springs and Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa Rancho Mirage.

Julián González Cruz was named the executive chef of the Cathedral City location and he oversaw the development of menus at full-service restaurant Café One Eleven, sports bar 360 Sports (a concept that is also at the Rancho Mirage property) and Agave Caliente Tequila Bar.

The property also includes an outpost of quick-service coffee shop Java Caliente and the 12,000-square-foot Agua Caliente Pavilion, which will be able to host larger events of up to 1,000 people.

The space will be used not only for performances from entertainers and comedians, but also for community events, Agua Caliente Casino Cathedral City General Manager Michael Facenda said in an interview with the Southern California News Group over the summer.

“I see cornhole tournaments, chili cook-offs, food truck competitions,” he said.

The casino is open 24 hours daily, seven days per week.
